Do you ever wake up in the morning and crave something? For me, it’s often waffles or oatmeal; warm, comforting food is kind of my jam. Today, however, I woke up craving a pumpkin spice latte. All jokes aside about college girls in fall, I knew I wanted that warm, spicy taste of nutmeg, pumpkin, cinnamon and ginger. I wanted all of that – but I didn’t want the 380 calorie grande latte with a whopping 49 grams of sugar! Instead, I borrowed some organic pumpkin puree from my roommate and made a healthy, delicious alternative that tastes like a treat (and packs a massive protein punch!).

Try this recipe out for when you’re craving a protein packed pumpkin delight – and let me know what you think!

pumpkin spice smoothie (gluten free & protein-packed!)

Serves 4 (or 1 if you’re dedicated like me)

16oz pumpkin puree (NOT pumpkin pie filling – I like this brand)

2.5 scoops Cellucor Cinnamon Swirl protein

4 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1 cup frozen spinach

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp ginger

Cloves & nutmeg, to taste

Optional: English Toffee stevia or your favorite honey (have you tried manuka honey?)

Combine all ingredients in your Vitamix and blend. (If you don’t have a vitamix, get one. If you don’t want to get one yet, blend your almond milk and frozen spinach first, then blend the rest of the ingredients).

Top with cinnamon and enjoy!

Personally, I love having protein to add into my smoothies, and Cellucor makes some of my favorite flavors. Not all of them are gluten free, though, so definitely be careful! The Cinnamon Swirl is amazing, and definitely worth ordering.
